Last week, my boss got stuck on a major road for half an hour due to this 'incident'

The traffic was stopped by a swan (and the police). Apparently it was like that bit in Hot Fuzz, except they weren't chasing the swan.

One policeman was sat in the car reading a paper, and the other one was shouting at people who got out of their cars to get back inside, and stopping people who wanted to drive past.

Weird.

All swans are property of Her Majesty.

All Police are property of Her Majesty.

The police were just looking after one of their own!

Twisted logic I know!

To be fair, they might not have had NVQ training in Swan handling, and so not allowed to chase the Swan off due to not having the necessary skills.

Had a similiar thing in Alton a few years ago.
My passenger got out of the cab, calmly cornered & picked up the swan then walked 1/4 mile up the road and let it go near the river.

Sorted.

Driving home from the station a couple of weeks ago, through the high street in St Neots, Cambs we pulled over to let 2 police cars through who raced through the town centre on full blues. We got half way across the river bridge where we found the 2 cars pulled up stopping the traffic with the 4 officers running around like headless chickens trying to chase a swan off the bridge - they really didn't have a clue. A van driver, fed up having been stopped for 10 minutes because of this calmly got out his van, walked slowly up to the swan, picked it up and walked it down the steps into the park. The police on the other hand then moodily berated him for putting himself and the other road users at risk?????

They wouldn't let anyone do this apparently. The seige ended with the swan waddling up the hill away from the camera and into a lane on the left.

The cop car sprang into action, drove after it and 'blocked' off the lane so that the swan would have to squeeze past the car and a hedge to get back to the road.
