Got in this morning and the clutch pedal went to the floor. Fluid all under the car so I'll assume it's a bad slave cylinder.

Just double checking - is the replacement a TR-7 part? (86 280i) Thanks Grady

Based on recent experiences - specify Rover SD1 V8/Vitesse. There's a few people who think they are parts specialists for TVR's within these forums - so stick to the exact engine spec and you won't go wrong as well as shopping around for the best prices.

Since I'm in the States and this is prime drive time in Texas I had to work locally. Turns out on a 280i it's the same as a late TR7-TR8. BTW - 13mm bolts to car (not sure they were original though); 12 mm for fluid pipe and 11 mm for bleed. (I share this to hopefully help others and save time.)

The old fluid that was left in the system was crud (my spouse thought the jar had her coffee in it!)

Dropped the right side exhaust from the header - easier to push around b/c otherwise it's in the way big time.

Used 1/4" drive sockets - very little space to work. (Next toy: ratcheting wrenches in metric sizes.)

Had to drop the old slave and gently straighten the pipe before I could get the pipe fitting broken loose. But I was able to flush the line and gravity-bleed it that way. Remember to press the slave piston in or the brake fluid will come out of the reservoir when you reassemble.

The cone on the clutch end of the shaft was galled/gouged. Don't know why but left as is. There appears to be a bit of adjustment on the shaft but left as is too.

No more crunching going into 1st or reverse. Took about 3 hours the first time - maybe 1.5 hours w/o a lift the next time.
