Suitable 4x4 for towing...

right so my friend is after a 4x4 thats capable of towing 3000kg, a horse box. She lives on a farm and is suseptible to getting snowed in in winter. Shes got a 25-30k budget and economy is kind of important, as it build quality and comfort. Shes had a landrover defender td5, but is selling it as the clutch is stiffer than my old evo's and its basic inside to say the least.
She has a baby so the front passenger airbag needs to be switchable. Her dads trying to force a landrover discovery 3 on her but she 1) hates the image 2)iffy build quality issues and 3) i think shes resistant just because her fathers forcing her into it..
Can any of you recommend a 4x4 that would suit all those requirements?

Hilux 3.0 D4D Invincible? You can spec these up nicely and the airbag is switchable too. Pick up truck also enables straw/hay and crap to be loaded up nicely.

I have one, so obviously biased!

The new VW pick up is supposed be nice (Amorak I believe) - not sure on towing capacity though.

VW Toerag thingy? Audi Q5/7? For 25k-30k, she's in a good position to get a decent new/nearly new motor.

All Land Rovers/Range Rovers are capable of legally towing 3500kgs (Freelander excepted) which is the max allowed in the UK on normal over-run brakes.

Personally I'd avoid the Mitsis, too much of a poor rep for reliability. For example, a mate's forestry company bought a pair of new Tritons (or whatever the 4wd ute is called for you) last year and both have needed gearbox rebuilds (under warranty at least) after about 30,000km.

For heavy towing I'd probably be heading for a Landcruiser or Patrol.
