With 5678jnr now on the scene, I want to replace a section of our gravelled garden with some grass. It won't be a major landscaping project, just somewhere for him to play in the summer once he starts walking about.

At a guesstimate, I'm looking at an area of 20-25sq M.

Currently, the ground is rock hard and has a layer of gravel over it. I'm assuming there is no membrane as I have to weed kill regularly.

From a bit of reading, I will need to dig up the area I want to turf and put down decent top soil? How deep will I need to go? Any ideas on what top soil costs? What about turf costs? Any do's or don'ts?

Essentially, I'm trying to price up what it will cost me to do. Then I will get some quotes from professionals to see the difference.

The ground may only be heavily compacted topsoil. You need to dig a bit to find out. No need to buy something you don't need (topsoil).

As you've got someone I'd also back up Les' recommendation for anyone else reading this. Ben and his team are excellent and also happy to endorse smile

I think he also did Fraser's garden too when he was in Ascot.
