Comparison Website SCAM !

Trying (in vain) to find some reasonable car insurance for my youngest. So as usual, I threw the renewal notice from her current insurer in the bin, and went on the comparison sites.

Ensleigh came in least expensest (note not cheapest) so I phoned them. Of course they had to check the details and it seems that ticking the "factory fitted alarm and immobiliser" button automatically ADDS a thatcham cat 1 immobiliser. Ford, it seems don't fit these as stadard on the StreetKa, so the price of course goes up by £100.

Now, when I questioned this, it seems that ALL comparison websites do the same, and you are offered a discounted premium. So, check, and check again, because if you take out the insurance as offered, and you don;t have a Thatcham Cat 1 immobilser alarm, there is a good chance your not actually covered.

Alot of companies put the premium up if you get the quote online and ring up anyway.

My last one with RAC the online quote was 800, i rang up and they confirmed all the details and said it was actually 1300, even though no details changed.

I hung up and paid online instead.

Usually you ring them and they double check the details anyway. I rang mine after i found it on a comparison site and they gave me it even cheaper!

Yes, but my point was that the comparison website overrode the "factory fitted" box,and put in Thatcham Cat 1 automatically, thereby giving me a lower premium. Had I NOT phoned to confirm the details and bought online, I would have probably not been covered for a theft claim !

Incase anyone does not know, make sure you use all the comparison websites as they have different insurers, some have lots of brands all owned by the same insurer.

Comparison sites have to try and satisfy many hundreds of insurers so all the questions an insurer may want arn't always asked this is why there are disclosures on comparison sites that prices given arn't accurate and are estimates,to make sure the premium is correct you need to speak to the insurer directly.
