Boot release switch
Discussion
Allan,
On my Mk.1 S with a DAB radio fitted, I could access 2 off 8mm nuts via the hatch that the radio was fixed to. You may not have this, but you should have the circular rubber 'bung' on the rear of the boot interior. You should be able to feel/see the 2 nuts in line with the boot badge through the circular 'hole'.
Undoing the 2 8mm nuts allowed me to withdraw the 'Tuscan' badge from outside the car & expose the switch. IIRC the switch just completes the earth side to the solenoid. I superglued a plain washer to the plastic 'button' on the switch, giving a better landing area. I also traced the wires ex the switch back to a connector and sprayed electrical cleaner on to the blades. Whilst I was at it, I also cleaned & sprayed the connector to the solenoid wiring.
Re-assembly is (as Haynes say) the reverse procedure. Just don't nip the 2 off nuts up too tight, else you'll be permanently energising the solenoid.
