Runaround that doesn't run-a-round!

'scuse me while I have a little moan.
I bought a car from a dealer for trade in of my car(value of £1000) plus £500 cash while I save up for something a little more exciting. I did all the usual checks, had someone check over the service history, Hpi, etc etc. It was only intended to last me around a year and has so far lasted me 4 weeks and 6 days.
Oh and 6 days OUT of the dealers warranty
The power steering went on it 3 weeks ago. The pump is knackered. So I had to get towed, it's now been sat at the garage for three weeks due to a backlog on the pump that it needs. A generation 1 electric pump, the most expensive, and elusive of all the pumps on that model.
My options are
a) buy a new pump and rack at around £700 + labour
b) buy one that has been sourced down south as excess stock for £440 + labour.
c) wait until April 9th for a pump the garage has on order that may or may not be the right one as no-one seems to know for sure! £300 odd + labour worst case it doesn't fit and I'm back to square one with a total of 6 weeks without my car.
And I only have £200 cash spare this month.

Its probably worth going back to the dealer and asking them nicely to fix it.
Its slightly complicated in the low price you seem to have paid but its still worth a go.
Was your trade in really only worht £1,000?
He's conveniently closed at the moment, so he's either done a runner or genuinely gone somewhere...and yes it was high mileage so low trade in price! Its probably worth going back to the dealer and asking them nicely to fix it.

But sometimes they only cover gearbox and engine etc.
Not sure what this would come under.

I haven't driven an Astra with or without PAS so I don't know. But on some of these modern cars where the whole range has it, the steering is crazy heavy without. 205gti's and classic porsches don't have power steering !!
Erm, I'm a 7 1/2 stone female the chance of me driving it without power-steering is about as much chance as me pulling a crane for a mile! I did try believe me I'm not a fluffy pink girlie girl & I do drive 3.5 tonners occasionally so I'm not shy of my vehicles!
And thanks for the links and suggestions have been on the phone to the garage who I bought it off and he's half-willing to help me out r.e sourcing the part and possibly burdening some of the cost so that's very good of him really!

Any car that is 12 years old is going to need work doing to it and have parts fail
Its unfortunate that its a difficult to find bit that's gone
