I'm going to be up for a new set of rear tyres on my speed six soon and am wondering if it's worth replacing the existing standard 225/50's with 245/45's as used on the 4.2's (as I believe they share the same wheels).

Anyone got any views/experience on the difference, if any, this will make ?? I'm not sure why they are different in the first place as bhp and torque are near identical on the two models.

They're different because the S6 was supposed to be more of a GT car, i.e. softer suspension & a more relaxing drive.

I thought the higher profile tyres were meant to provide the softening of the ride and that these and a couple of cylinders were the only difference between 4.0 and 4.2.

I made the change when my rears went. Phoned the factory and they said it was ok to do , but should check with the insurance co. to make sure they were happy. Have to say that it doesn't change the handling to any great degree but does look better having the fatter rubber on the back.
