What the hell is this under my Throttle Pedal?!

Never noticed one of these bolts on a car before - what is it for? I was thinking some sort of archaic rev/speed limiter!?

Possibly a stop, if its a cable throttle, to stop you stretching the cable by forcing the pedal into the carpet.

Those bolt things are on some Fiats too. I guess its because the pedal is a weird shape.

Did your cambelts snap?!

I'm wondering if it's some advanced Italian automotive engineering solution to slow down the onset of cambelt tensioner failure - less revs=less wear and tear!
