Thinking of a Spider
Discussion
I run a porker 993 and a mk1 Mazda mx5 and am now thinking it's time to own an Alfa spider, must b the v6! So want to know what it's like to own ( I have driven a few and they certainly not as direct or agile as my mx5 but these are different cars) but what is everybody's experience of driving/owning one. My gf will be driving too and she's no the world's best drive so also wonder what's it's safety features like
Many thanks
Many thanks
I have a 1997 2.0 twin spark 916 spider for summer fun,22000 miles and a minter, love it for its individuality, handles better than most people give it credit for and its keeping together nicely,no rust due to galvanised body and lots of ally suspension parts, gets looked after by local specialist and its great fun.

They are also very undervalued at the moment (IMO), plenty of bargains out there right now.
I would go for the V6 - I love my TS but with the roof down you will always be yearning for the 6cyl sound.
Unless you have a ragazzon or an alfaholics exhaust system on, in which case you'll be happy with the TS (HOW many silencers do you really need?)....I would go for the V6 - I love my TS but with the roof down you will always be yearning for the 6cyl sound.
...the Alfa V6 sound is a thing of beauty though.
I'd rather have my ph2 spider than a TT, MX5, S2000, or MG TF. A boxster is better in all respects apart from the blander cabin and the sheer fuglyness of the thing. An elise is a bit hardcore and I like to be able to put the hood up in less than 30 seconds. Chimaera is a possibility.
My spider is quick enough to be fast enough to overtake when I need to and I comfortable enough at motorway speeds. It's got a stupendous amount of grip on the right tyres, wet or dry. The trick suspension allows me to get it to turn in on the right corner a la RWD. I've had other RWD cars - I can count the number of times I've deliberately put the tail out on one hand. I wouldn't embarrass myself on a track day with the spider, I'd use something much quicker like a caterham. It's got a bigger boot (sans spare wheel) than a merc slk. It's bright yellow, kids love it, people do a double take when they see it. It cost me £5k and it's now worth about £3k, but people perceive it to be an expensive car still.

I have Ragazzon unsilenced centre and rear pipes and a sports cat - it sounds great (IMO) for a 4-banger, but lets not kid ourselves its no Alfa-6!...the Alfa V6 sound is a thing of beauty though.

Its just that the Busso/Arese is sooooo good. The TS is still a very satisfying motor though, ill agree
