Whilst having a few beer last night, as you do, the conversation turned to car wrapping and the costs, how to do it, preperation etc.

With the state of the paint finish on the FHC, with what looks like tiny digs from sanding discs and cracks along the lines of the bonnet vents (it must be off of a SEAC wink ) how easy would it be to prep for a vynil wrap and how much do you think it would cost against a full prep and paint job??

I got a quote of £750 for my Chim from these guys a couple of months ago:

http://www.coverupvinyls.co.uk/

This was for a solid gloss red. They haven't seen the car so not sure what prep is required. I believe they just clean, degrease and take off badges and other bits of trim to apply the vinyl. I don't think any filling sanding etc is involved as vinyl isn't seen as a permanent solution. I was considering it to delay a full £2k plus respray, once the vinyl comes off it may take any loose/flakey paint with it, hence a respray may then be required.

Ive seen threads in general gassing i would have a look in there.
From what i remember wrapping has a life of around 3 to 5 years depending on how well the front take to stones hiting it.
As for price i think it depends upon what kind of wrap and if you can cover an area with 1 sheet.
I think a wedge wrapped will look realy nice and i think it wouldnt be too difficult as the surface is a lot flatter than other tivs.
Would be interesting...

How about a massive Union Jack with the TVR logo across it???

I saw an Elise being done on the telly, so it must be possible, maybe even easier on the Wedge.

Or perhaps tin foil for the 'chromed' effect??

Ive got a mate with a 300C that he has had quoted at £1000 for a full wrap including sills, so I reckon my little Tasmin would be about £800. they are also quoting that its good for 8 to 10 years, but Im not convinced with the complete carbon fibre cover... thinking more along the laguna seca blue BMW colour, especially with the blue interior..

I did the front of the Racer myself. while waiting for a possible sponsor, as would have had there colours, but it never happened.

Front of the Racer was a right mess, holes, cracks, filler different layers of paint, Gell coat etc.
I just scrapped off all the flaky stuff, and put on the vinyl from a roll, so you could do the whole car yourself for about £200. would not be as good a one sheet professional job, but from 1 Meter plus would look fine.

If I remember right - it was the vinyl wrap that actually held the bonnet together smile

It did help quite a bit when I had my last off at Rockingham, and broke the splitter off.
