Well this is my main 'in progress' build at the moment, I'm taking ye-olde Revell 1/32 Apache 'A' model and converting it to a 'D' model British Army Westland Apache.
The project involves a lot of scratchbuilding and extra detailing, the 'D' has a much bulkier appearance due to the enlarged avionics bays or 'sponsons' either side of the fuselage - I've had to build these from plastic card and good old dead reckoning - also the analogue cockpit was dremelled flat and replaced with my own scratchbuilt placards to resemble the glass cockpit of the updated heli.

cheers chaps, glad you like it

I'll post up some pics soon chaps as the build has moved forward somewhat, fuselage all sealed up, undercarriage legs on, lots of progress

Oh that's awfully nice
I would love to do one of these soon
Guess whose model is about to become a template for my build?

Just been reading Ed Macy's tales of derring do
Apache has become a must for this helo fan

No, mine doesn't stand chance of being this good, but I still gotta try...
Actually I started this project as a direct result of reading Macy's book , and I emailed Ed himself a few months back and he very kindly confirmed to me the serial number of the Apache he flew in the Jugroom Fort rescue - so it's going to be that one I would love to do one of these soon

Hi,
I just finished Ed Macy's first book which I bought as a result of reading this thread - an excellent book.
Have you tried either of "Chickenhawk" or "Low level hell" for model inspiration? The former was written by an ex UH-1 pilot and the latter by an ex OH-6 pilot, both are outstanding books which give a superb insight into what helicopter pilots got up to in Vietnam.

Must admit I haven't read either of those - must keep an eye out for them. I just finished Ed Macy's first book which I bought as a result of reading this thread - an excellent book.
