I've rowed the head a couple of times (same course but in reverse). The pain is unreal - much more fun watching it in the pub now.

well I went to Oxford a few moons ago, and my OH rowed in it in 03 and 04 so why can't I say that??

as happy as I am, I feel for them.

If you're losing to the point you can't hear the other crew any more it is so so painful. My OH lost in 2004 and it ruined his year, he was utterly distraught, but knew that Cambridge deserved to win that year.
