I saw a comment on you tube saying that in 'DS' mode (auto over to left and more control over gears with paddles/higher revs) the exhauset changed character in that the valve stays open, making it noisier. Does anyone know if there is any truth in this and infact if any other characteristic of the car changes...believe porsches' ride stiffens up when 'sport' mode!?

Thanks

DS is simply a mode on the gearbox.

Yes in DS mode only gearbox mapping

The valve in the exhaust opens when the car goes over 2500rpm to yield maximum perform for flow through the shorter pipe.

The valve closes at low rpm's for noise really so a "luxury" car doesn't sound too chavvy.

Does the 330i have a similar setup, I noticed it didnt sound as 'sporting' as the 335i.

Thanks for confirming that...was hoping it made the exhaust sound a bit beefier but guess not. Will have to look for other option, apparently a 'golf tee' mod or something to open valves, though not sure about the sound of forcing something...sure there will be a connector that will do the trick of keeping it open ;-)
