Ah, so many MX5 stories start the same. One drive of a friends car and you're hooked. So hooked that you buy that car when friend is finished with it.

A couple of issues (holey exhaust, rubbish cheap lowered suspension, randomly flips up the lights if I indicate left, no fog light!) but for £500 one can't argue.

I'll be spending tomorrow mostly cleaning here up and then driving her again biggrin Done 200 miles since I got her last night and can't stop grinning.

First stop: order a PH sticker!

Yessir, will probably need at least the same again to make it perfect but I can do that over time and personalise it, which will please me. A car's not a car unless it's a project biggrin

AWESOME.

What is even better than the price, is that there are a few niggly bits. This means you can make it better than it already is biggrin

Nah, here's the new steed with the current one, which is now for sale:

Before the E30 316i I had an E34 530i V8 so I've had plenty of RWD fun wink The MX5 is the sweetest handling of anything I've driven though.

I have been on the hunt for ages but have been too fussy. Time to fool the finger out I think.

Will you be putting on standard suspension or putting in something else?

I was pondering black RB Rotas, but that won't be for a while yet! Smurf on white it is for the forseeable future biggrin

No I'd prefer a sportier setup but the current eBay lowering springs/standard shocks has ruined the ride. I'm browsing about for recommendations so if you have any I'd love to hear them smile I'm thinking a full spring/shock set and then off to have the geometry checked, possibly polybushed too.

Depending on budget, 2-300 quid Spax would be better than standards IMO, shocks and coils.

Spent today patching the hole in the exhaust ready for MOT, seems to have just moved the blow further back along the pipe! Oh well, it's all good fun. Also going to move the smashed off fog light into the rear cluster in the place of one of the reverse lights.

Gone for MoT at the Wrestlers garage next to Aston Martin Graham?

Saw it this evening I think. Looks nice.

Popped it the spotted section in Bed, Herts & Bucks.

Yessir, there for some remedial work to pass the MOT, got a bit of a hole in the sill on OSR so getting that patched and the cheapo TA Technix coilover eBay specials I bought fitted. Could have done that myself but the bolt in the bottom wishbone on the OSR was in pretty tight, I could just see myself rounding it off!

Steve at 2 Wrestlers does a good job, I'd recommend him to people in the area smile

Check your heater pipes, especially the one that runs from the bulkhead behind the back of the cylinder head!

Changed my two last night as the one behind the engine had burst due to being soaked in oil from leaking cam cover gasket over the years - the end of the pipe that connected to the heater through the bulkhead felt like new, however the end that connected to the engine was a disgusting spongy, soggy mess.

Nearly ran out of water, and that's a really bad idea!!

Just saying....!
