Are you a 17 year old driver if so what's your insurance?!

Hi everyone. Now listen. My driving test is on monday. There is a very high chance i pass and my instructor is curtain i will. This being the case i need to know what you other 17 year old drivers are paying for your car insurance and what car it is? Im getting rediculous quotes of £5,000 plus! I am not sure why this is but could you help me with my comfusion. Thanks.

Get a VW Jetta (Like a MK2 golf saloon) Mate of mine, (17, own policy [no fronting] not in a particularly brilliant postcode) Bought one for £550 and is paying £900 per year for Third party fire and theft insurance. Which is SERIOUSLY cheap for someone of our age!

I'm 18, passed July last year.
I'm with Aviva, and am around £2000 for insurance.

Seriously, you are not going to get any cheap quotes on any car. It's something we have to endure for a few years unfortunately!

2.3 Low Pressure Turbo SAAB 9-5, 1997. Big, averagely quick barge. Cost £800. Insurance £1500 TPF&T. That was without lying, and in my name. Mother and Sister on policy too. That was when I was 18, just passed test. Don't think that year differences make a huge difference? Good luck, look at left field choices! Volvo 340 par example

I had a Skoda Fabia 1.4 for £1k when I passed.. Insurance was £1400 TPF&T iirc
Now I'm 18, have a 1.6 SportKa for £1050 fully comp.
Insurance seems to be very hit and miss, and highly dependant on car.. No alternative but to suck it up :/

Otherwise, yes just passed insurance is crazy. On L plates it's much cheaper. Fail for the win!

When I was 17 two years ago I bought a 1994 Skoda Favorit for £75 and insurance was £425 for the year with my step dad as a named driver on the policy.

Look for a car that not many teenagers have and put other family members as named drivers.

Also occupation seems to affect quotes by a few hundred £. Students/unemployed being much more expensive.

Bad grammar on this site will get you smirked at. It's just in jest (mostly). Mouthing off at people smirking at your bad grammar will get you ridiculed.

I always found adding my mother as a named driver brought it down. Also drive something st that 'boy racers' don't drive for a couple of years which will give you a no claims discount that is worth its weight in gold. DO NOT FIT AFTERMARKET ALLOYS

Buy something alittle 'Unusual' for your age group. Avoid Saxos etc like the plague.

Try Admiral for your insurance aswell, I have been with them since I was 18 and only ever paid over £1000 on my Rover 220 Turbo and my Alfa V6.

Looking forward to the 'my car drove itself into a ditch and it wasn't my fault' post in a few weeks. It won't be the insurance you get when you pass your test that will hurt, it will be the increase once you have put your car through a wall and claimed on it.

I passed my test in 2008. I haven't driven since, I can't afford it.
