morning ,my 4.2 is going to have a 12000 service and a remap on monday with Austec
what kind of improvements will/could i get
Assuming everything else is in order then very little on a 4.2 IMHO. what kind of improvements will/could i get
If though the car has a few running niggles and these are sorted then this combined with the map will see improvements.
The map will smooth things out but unlikely to gain many horses (in isolation).
When I got mine it only made 287 bhp, after a service and remap it made 340 bhp, after that I removed the sports pipes and re fitted the standard back box and did the optimal cam timing mod, it made 357 bhp.
Since then I've had a high flowing custom made exhaust fitted by Raceproved, and is going for a dyno run very soon. I'm hoping for around 370 bhp, but as said the gains are small for a 4.2

a good 4.2 engine should be around 360ish, of all the ones i've built the lowest was 365, highest 372 with cats and no mapping,i don't think you'll gain much in power from mapping but you will inprove driveabilty/throttle response aimo
andy
at last someone come a long with there brain in ,thank you this is the feed back i was looking forandy
ex employers whats that all about?

Have a look at the threads mid aug 2008....but have a look at this thread

As already stated above, you won't gain alot of horses if your engines running nicley anyway. Jools remapped my 4.2 and did some porting work on the inlet manifolds which gave an extra 25hp in total. This isn't the real story though, the cars smoothness and low down grunt were transformed, it now pulls strongly from 2000revs upwards to the beep without any hesitation. It was well worth the money for the mapping for this alone.
Maps can be 'massaged' to provide lots more pops and bangs as well........

I can agree totaly with this having the same done. If you go ahead make sure your not going to change the exhaust after. Getting the feeling I'm going to have to get the map tweaked as the low down hesitation and missing has returned after changing the exhaust system.Maps can be 'massaged' to provide lots more pops and bangs as well........

I called into Raceproved this morn, and Joos was there stood next to an empty dyno.
So he did me a quick power run

Apart from the re map i had done a couple of years ago at Track Car and the High flowing exhaust, my engine is completely standard.
Once my badly cracked manifolds have been swapped for 4.5 ones and the inlet manifolds have be ported and polished with bigger butterflys fitted, im hoping it might hit 380 - 390 bhp which isnt bad for a 4.2

So Joo is gonna fit larger butterflies to the standard inlets then?
Very interesting...........
R8nan s inlets have been done like this, so its not a firstSo Joo is gonna fit larger butterflies to the standard inlets then?

Gazzab,,,,, My Exhaust is a Raceproved custom made one, its 2 1/2 " bore stainless from the exhaust manifold back ( un linked were the D cats used to be ) johnny has got a good vid of it kicking flames out

Before it had a Track car un linked D cats and a standard 4.2 exhaust on

Joo did this to mine, the low down grunt is brilliant and makes the car extremely driveable. The torque all bangs in at 2k revs. Mine was 346bhp at the start from a 13 year old, untouched, unmodified engine. It was 362bhp when it left, but it had badly cracked manifolds and it turned out a duff lead and coil pack. It recorded 382bhp on a local dyno after they were all swapped out. I'm now running with ACT stainless tuned length manifolds and ACT quiet exhaust system decatted.Maps can be 'massaged' to provide lots more pops and bangs as well........
