I'd love to know the times too, but they're bound to be more closely guarded than, well, a very closely guarded thing.

As for paint schemes, I expect they will but I hope they go for something a bit more interesting than silver with red bits - that car deserves a really eye-catching paint job.

The Winter Test was at the beginning of Feb - it's now the end of March. Nice to see these journo's have their finger on the pulse.
From an eyewitness perspective, it didn't look appreciably faster that the R15+. Hardly a scientific synopsis, I grant you.

test took place last week on the mon-fri immediately after the sebring 12 hours.
confirmed by audi. they have not released times or colour schemes, but the chrome hood will stay apparently.

That number '2' car doesnt have the silver roof bit like on the newer pics. Aswell as all the sponsers, tyre markings etc

On the '2' car, anyone know what the red things are on the top of the front arches. '1' car doesnt seem to have them. Also, '2' must have had panel fastener issues by the looks of the amount of speed tape deployed over the front panels smile

1:47's is a decent time I guess, roll on Spa!

Nice. but even to the untrained eye it is clearly a different car to the one featured in the pics.
For all the reasons mentioned by robmlufc.
Nice also to see an apology for the idle slagging of post/journos/photographers

DSC report that it/they were clocked by Highcroft as lapping in the 1:45's. It appears to be a bit rapid.

My point is that the car was debuted at the Sebring Winter Test in February. The pics in the article (which feature the car used in the test, plus another, with a few extra decals on it) are of a private session, run after the race.
The significant and more meaningful running of the car (it's first time, running, in public and competitor scrutiny) was more than a month prior to what was reported.
I went to the Test - the R18 did not seem any faster than the R15+ that it was lapping with - though Sebring is not a circuit that would appreciably favor a closed coupe, from an aero perspective.
I think the breakthrough is similar hp to the R15 with significantly less displacement.

These aren't the same R18's as the initial first test. These are Evo 2 R18's which have had modifications based on the findings of that initial Sebring test. Lots of aero modifications apparently.

The Le Mans test day and Spa are going to be very interesting.

two number '1' R18s there, so they used at least 3 cars in different specs by the looks of the pics.

I think they only brought two chassis and both were in FL from early Feb. I got this from a contact at Champion (Audi) Motorsports, in Pompono Beach and attending the Feb test and the 12 Hour race myself.

Where are you getting your info from on "Evo 2" R18's?

In that last vid, I think it's the same two cars - just one of them has a different front clip on it.

The Evo 2 information is coming from Audi, several sportcar websites including DailySportsCar.com and some other specialist motorsport sources. I'd say it was genuine information.

Nah, only two chassis - though I suspect a variety of bodywork/wing configurations.

Breaking the ACO's visible smoke rules too. I thought only Peugeot were allowed to do that....

All the diesels have been breaking that rule since they started to compete to a more or lesser extent, especially noticeable looking up towards Dunlop from Tertre Rouge as the cars crest, or as the filters purge after a pit stop. I think it's one of those rules that the ACO deem to overlook for all rather than just the home cars although I get the impression that if they start to smoke like a 200k minicab, there might be a chat taking place.

Nice video, there are some lovely little details on the R18.

Both cars were Evo 2s with significant changes from february.
Both Arrived at homestead from germany a week before the 12 hours.
but only two cars, they ran both as No1s then switched front of one to be a number 2.
Allan ran the r15 with them on the first day for some pacing laps.
