Redundancy imminent...but doesn't feel right

Interested to hear others thoughts about this; I'm sure I'm unable to do anything but, you never know.

4 weeks ago, myself and a colleague were put at risk of redundancy. During this period we both applied for other roles on the same contract. We were interviewed 2 weeks ago (the first and so far only interviews) and the closure date for applications is 30th March with interviews progressing this week and next. Now, last Thursday my colleague and I received letters at home inviting us to a meeting tomorrow to 'discuss the outcome of your recent interview'.

The meeting is with the contract General Manager and head of HR. Things don't seem right though. Why give us a job before they've gone through with meeting other applicants? And why tell us we've been unsuccessful without having met other applicants?

I'd be interested to hear others thoughts, especially if you're more clued up on HR matters than me.

It's difficult to say until the outcome of the meeting is clear. I'd suggest you are about to get screwed however.

They are following a process that's all. They have a responsibility to look within the organisation for other roles you could perform, if they don't find anything they can make you redudant. Sounds like they have ticked the box that says "we looked" and now they will go ahead with the redundancy process..


Hope I am wrong. It is fine to give you the feedback early, I don't see a problem, if the other applicnts have x or y skill which you may not have ?

Others may have skills I don't but they'd only be known about on paper as no other interviews have taken place.

Just gone through the redundancy process myself and I'd echo what has already been said. To avoid claims of unfair dismissal/favoritism etc they are probably sticking to a prescribed process.

Being one of the top 10 companies in the world I've no doubt it's all above board. Either way I've not been successful in getting a role, my colleague did though whilst I was sent home at lunchtime and next Wednesday will see whether I work or get paid my notice.

Sorry to hear it, still, it is an opportunity too. I have been in the same situation twice now. Both times I have tried to see positive, it does force you to consider doing new things and exploring options you may not have previously considered.

I had a very fun time in Switzerland for 8 months working, after being made redundant in the UK.
