I'm currently insuring my first car and want to know if these no claims bonus accelerators work. The company I'm looking at offer 1 years no claims after just 6 months smile I'd be happy to fork out a little extra money if it meant that I got a bigger no claims bonus faster and also move onto a more tasty car quicker

Has anyone used a similar no claims bonus accelerators? If so do they genuinely work in terms of building a no claims bonus faster and making your insurance cheaper in the long term?

Thanks in advance smile

I used a 10 month = 1 year bonus accelerator for the first couple of years driving. That was from Elephant.co.uk some years ago. When I changed companies the next company (I forget who) accepted it as 2 years normal NCB.

I would do it again.

Same as the above - I've used the ten-month policy = 1 year NCB with Admiral, Elephant's sister company. Another insurer will never know that it was only ten months, because they'll issue you a cover letter stating one year (or one year more than when you started the policy, whatever). So no problems with it smile

I guess a big issue here is the next insurance company's view on your 1Y NCB that was achieved with just 6 months driving.
And if they don't like it, you could be putty in the hands of your 1Y NCB guarantors.

Sounds like marketing spiel from a company that can be slightly more competitive on pricing. Very cynical aren't I.

That's what I was thinking, because if it only counts with the insurer that gave no claims in 6 months then its more just a way to entice customers in

Does anyone know if other insurance companies take it seriously?

In 5 years, I've built up 6 years NCD with Admiral. Accepted elsewhere as it just states 6 years. Makes little difference over 5 years when getting quotes elsewhere, but cost me more per month than a yearly cover and probably more over the last 5 years than I'd possibly save with the extra year now.

I wouldn't bother. Although 1 year for 6 months sounds good if accepted elsewhere!
