Still haven't found first proper watch!
Discussion
I put a message on here a little while ago. I haven't had much time so still haven't sorted out a watch. I think the answer is probably more than one watch - but being a simple guy, wanted to try and get one watch that hits all the boxes.
Challenge is thus:
1. Smart for wearing with a suit - I like the Omega Seamaster for a clue
2. Hard wearing, mustn't be something i'm worried about breaking
3. Need to be a reasonably simple face
4. Needs to have an easy available and quick to use stopwatch
5. Needs to have a light system the won't affect night vision. So not White backlight (night flying)
Budget up to maybe 2500?
Good challenge?

My main issue is how hard-wearing do you need it to be? If you're regularly using a pneumatic drill or cage fighting then anything less than a G-shock will die quickly.
No cage fighting or drills
just things like if I'm getting stuck into an engine or general day to day use.So not fragile or scratchable but no a GShock
@Pesty I like the look of tHat - I'm going to check out the website
^ The Sinn 900 is 44mm, so fairly large but whether it suits or not is up to you and your wrists, the 756 is smaller at 40mm.
Both are hardened, have the latest Sinn case technology (dehumidyfiers, Ar fill, Diapal for the 756 etc etc) and I believe the 900 is also anti-mag to a high degree.
Both are extremely good watches, the 900 dial is very well thought out I think, subdueing the constant second hand to promote visibility of the chrono sub-dials, a neat internal bezel that's minute marked and business-like fully lumed hands.
I was considering a 900 but my scrawny pixie wrists wouldn't carry it off unfortunately.

I spotted that picture in the other 'Lume' thread Pesty
I really do like both watches very much.
The 900 quite a lot more expensive, whereas the 756 seems to have more modern tech but less features?
I am a complete watch novice - so that could be completey wrong.
both cracking looking watches though
Any recommendations on where I can view one in the UK? I work in London, Hatfield and Bristol.......if that helps.

Which hatfield ( there is a village up the road from me called that)? don't know of any people that sell Sinn who have an actual shop http://www.chronomaster.co.uk/sinn.htm have a very good rep.I really do like both watches very much.

Ball are being stocked by quite a few jewelers these days.

Sinn are stocked by Jura watches in London or Neil at Chronomaster in Bolton (although it is an internet based business); Neil (I believe) offers a try before you buy arrangement, (or buy and return with 7 days if not happy - something like that anyway).
Both are fine to deal with although Neil is probably the most knowledgable whilst Jura are perhaps more accesible. No horror stories from either.
You're about right with your assesment of both of them, although I wouldn't say (despite being a fan) that the 900 offers that much more than the 756. Either should see you good, according to your preferences.
As to lume, and here I'll probably be corrected, but there are varying types, the main being C1 and C3 - Sinn use C1, which isn't quite as bright as C3. However in daylight/lowlight C1 is stark white whereas C3 gives a greenish tinge, I think Sinn opt for C1 as it offers the best contrast to the black dial. They are instrument makers and I see their logic. It's all a question of degrees as well, either C1 or C3 is perfectly adequate for normal use.
As Pesty says, there are other ways to get the lume, the tritium tubes have an advantage in that they are bright permanently (for 25yrs ?) and don't fade with time (i.e. during the night). You'll also notice the Ball uses them on the chrono hands which makes the chrono readable at night, although as the divisions are unlumed it's probably an approximative feature, but one that is rare in chronographs. Certainly worth considering although it looks as if they have screw-down pushers (you have to unscrew the pusher buttons before you can use them), which goes contrary to your need for 'quick and easy access'. (Anyone confirm they're screw-down?)

Just to add that they are indeed screw-down pushers.
Ah yes they are well spotted. There are other versions of the firman without screw down pushers.
One thing I just noticed is that there is no lume on my Sinns' chrono hands. The balls do have tubes on the sub dial hands

I do really like that Pesty - i'm loving the special forces and helicopter elements.......is it wrong though that the French flag bothers me?
edited to add.......bothers me in that i'm not French.......and it's clearly a military watch?
I wouldn't want a watch with a St. George on it, and I'm English. edited to add.......bothers me in that i'm not French.......and it's clearly a military watch?
