Kicking a rugby ball around with some friends on Saturday i had a momentary loss of consentration & the ball ended up coming down on the tips of my fingers bending them back towards my hand from a fairly lofty kick.
I had it on ice pretty much straight away but it swelled up so my fat fingers looked even more like sausages!
My question is, i cannot move my 4th finger at all & it's quite tender, the pinky is'nt as bad but it's still quite painful.
I don't really want to go to the hospital & have the faff of waiting, getting it X-rayd to be told they'll just tape it up as that's what i've done to them already.
This photo was taken last night, the bruising on my hand is now blacker & i have bruising all around the finger from base to tip.

High chance of being broken, esp with re: limited movement and bruising showing through. Personally I would get xrayed in case manipulation of fingers needed if any of the fracture (assuming there is one) is overriding. It may also be useful to know if there could be any tendon damage.

Ok looks like i'll have to popo up the hospital after work then!
When you brake fingers now do they just tape it to the one next to it?
As when i broke my thumb they had this glove thing they put on it with metal rods in it to keep it straight!

I assume so. To be honest I'm a vet nurse not a human nurse but same basics apply!

Any break or tendon damage needs rest and support so a splint or cast is needed. A finger is an ideal splint support for its neighbour.

Hope it is just bad bruising but it's good to check and know even though it is a nuisance to wait for xrays!

Get it seen to asap. Someone I know broke a finger playing football a few weeks ago and didn't mention it to anyone until the other day - now it looks likely he'll never have full use of that finger again.

Popped up the hospital after work, they asked what i thought i'd done, i said, broken it?!
They said yep & they want me to go see the orthopedic surgeon tomorrow aswell.
So hopefully it's not going to need operating on!

I had to see an orthopaedic surgeon when I fractured my elbow last yr. Two surgeons eventually decided I didn't need an op which I was glad about!

Hopefully they'll say the same for you. I was going to say fingers crossed but that's probably a bit inappropriate!

Based on that piccy and your story I would guess at an FDP tendon avulsion, AKA Rugger Jersey Finger.

or a simple fracture....

If I'm right, I want some sort of prize.

Yeah it was broken, a triangular bit of broken bone on the knuckle.
They tried mallet splints that did'nt fit on my finger.
Then some other form of splint that pushed down on the fracture & was agony.
Then they tried plastering it with no success, then they just got a flat piece of metal bar, & taped my finger to that lol.
I'm back off up the fracture clinic (joy).
For another X-ray tomorrow to see how it's mending etc.
