what is this device on e320 '00 avant-garde?

just looking for help. Father in-law has this car and it beeps randomly all the time and when near traffic cops on bridges a long continuous beep starts. is this a speed detector? or faulty old school parking sensors? looked on the device for manufacture details or serial numbers cant see anything.

any help/info would be great

That is a camera detector by the looks of it and is TOO BLOODY OBVIOUS AND WILL GET YOU IN COURT.

It looks like a laser jammer, often sold as an aftermarket "Garage door opener".

As mentioned, they are actually illegal if used to jam a laser signal - I think under a law of obstructing a police officer in the line of his/her work. I'm sure the PH legal bods will know for sure, though.

However, it is not illegal to own the device, nor is it illegal to have it fitted to your car.

maybe just get it removed to be safe, as there doesn't seem to be a way to turn it on or off from inside the car. so no idea if it is jamming or not.
