Hello,
I am looking at buying a new car in the next few months. I am 20 years old, and have 3 years no claims, so insurance isn't too much of an issue.
I currently drive a 55 plate fiesta zetec s, which I enjoy driving, however it lacks power.
So I pose the question, what car should I go for next?
I have around £8000 to play with.

Both the above would probably cripple you on insurance but how about an MR2 Roadster or even...............and i cant believe i am saying this MX-5.
Both great cars, reasonable to run, top down fun and should be a little more insurance friendly.
Edited to add: when i say both the above i mean TVR and ST.

rx8 231. quick and for a sudo-sports car insurance group 15 aint bad(well it was when i owned one a few years ago).
never missed a heartbeat in 15months of owning it. seats 4 6foot plus adults. well within budget too.
you wont notice the torque "issues", i now drive a monaro with double the torque figure and the difference on paper isnt represented in real life imo.

Running something like this is fine if you have the disposable income for it but someone at the age of 20 with a 8k car budget may find it crippling. (Not judging here of course, but i had a simular budget at 20 and could never have run a car with such a thirst)
if you consider an rx8 definantly get on the owners forum for advice otherwise horror stories of "flooding" and "rebuilding at 60k" will spill out of peoples mouths quicker than you can say w ankle.
i loved mine but in the end i felt the actual power output didnt quite warrent the MPG figure.

yeah, the mpg is pretty dire ill fully admit that. "real world" i was struggeling to get mpre than 18, but the cheap purchase price and relitivly cheap insurance is a bonus compared to other cars of that ilk.Running something like this is fine if you have the disposable income for it but someone at the age of 20 with a 8k car budget may find it crippling. What do Mk5 Golf GTIs cost these days? They're hard to beat as a fun-but-practical everyday hot hatch. And could you get a 130i in budget?So far I have looked at:

The RX8 is unbelievable value in terms of looks, equipment, practicality. They are still new enough not to look dated. A lot is made of the mpg and it's not a secret it is poor, especially for the performance. For example, an E46 M3 does everything an RX8 does and will return much better fuel economy and it's in a completely different league performance wise.
Anyway, I digress....£8k hot hatch...a suggestion not mentioned so far...Mk 1 Focus RS?

The Focus RS would be a great purchase but i fear the worst on the insurance front!
Alfa 147 GTA. Without even a moment's thought. Legendary Alfa V6 up front pushing out 250bhp, incredible exterior and interior design, and a noise to die for. Then there's that feeling that you're driving something just a little bit more special and exclusive than a Ford, Vauxhall or a Renault. Something with pedigree and 100 years of heritage.
