Tvr s1 keeps cutting out

Hi guys, having some trouble with my s1 starts up fine, but when the foot is of the revs she just dies, any ideas? Many thanks

Had a similar problem with our S1, the guys at Top Gear sorted it by, if i remember correctly, cleaning out the air intakes, theres a flap arrangment whereby the more air being sucked in lifts the flap which increases the fueling, a very crude arangment. The flap on ours was sticking slighty when returning to tickover, which then cut the fueling long enough to stall the car. Fault was fixed by easing the movement of the flap. This is how it was explained to me anyway!, But i am an mechanical numpty! Hope this makes some sense.

er, didn't actualy do it myself! Try following the path of the air in fron the air filter, you'll have to come across it sooner or later! Hopfully somebody who knows what there talking about will be along soon, good luck, Steve.

Sounds more like there is an air leak somewhere.
Check that none of the air pipes connected to the plenum are leaking or the large air pipe from the airflow sensor to the throttle.

Mine did exactly that and there was a tiny split in the air hose near the the throttle unit.

Hi just found a split in the air hose just below the trottle unit, spot on Thanks I'll have to get a new hose, any ideas?

Not sure if the original Ford part is long enough in this application but they appear on ebay occasionally.
Otherwise you can always find 3" / 76mm silicone hose that will do the job.

Just to bring this up to date as I have now done the replacement.

Required are 76mm 90° hose and 76mm 45° hose and a coupler.
These came from Silicon Hoses, references A45-76_BLUE, A90-76_BLUE.

The 45° hose needs about half of one leg cutting off and the 90° hose almost all of one leg.



The only problem is that the airflow meter outlet is turned rather more than 45°. To be able to get this to 45° for a good fit, one of the ribs on the side needs to be trimmed to clear the tube as below:
