Evening,

The house we are buying needs some sort of rendering. A few of the houses nearby have weatherboard which we like, but we know has to be maintained with regular painting etc (we have it on our shed).

Last year we built the website for Marley Eternit and so got to know a few of their products including their Cerdral Weatherboard ..

http://www.marleyeternit.co.uk/Cladding/Cedral-Wea...

It seems to have a few advantages over using wood but I don't know anyone who has fitted it...

Anyone used it??

Cheers

D

I fitted a large amount of this weatherboard to a school recently.

Once fitted it's a really good product. It was blue/grey and had a grain effect on it. An absolute pain to cut, ruins all saws instantly and is heavy. Maintenance free however and I would guess has a longer life than natural cedar. Fitted using the same method as natural products i.e breather membrane, batons and stainless steel nails.

Yep, we fitted it on our conversion last year. Our builder championed it as it was on his house. We are very happy with the result and it's low maintenance to boot...

That looks great, how was the cost compared to normal wood/plastic?

We have specified it a few times on projects and its very good stuff and requires no maintenance (and its non combustible so can be used in areas close to the boundary unlike timber cladding)

Seems positive so far, I'd be interested to get a view on cost

That's not so easy to answer as it was all included in the cost. All I know is that on final billing there wasn't any increase due to us specifying it. I appreciate it might have been included elsewhere though.....

Nevertheless, we have to look at it everyday and I can honestly say that we don't regret it at all. It looks great, and finishes our house off quite nicely.
