Is another recession good for the motorist petrol goes down?
Discussion
Hi,
In the recession a few yrs ago, the price of petrol went down dramatically. Does anyone think that another recession would be good for the motorist? Recession or not, we always bail out some company/country (I think Portugal is the latest one, and is thanks to Labour knowing they would lose the election - because of that, I will never vote for them again btw).
What are your thoughts on this?

My bet is you'll see £2 a litre long before you see £1 a litre again.
Possibly by Christmas, almost certainly within 18 months, is my bet.Spitfire2 said:
I guess those that hang on to a good job find recessions beneficial in some ways (cost of fuel if it goes down being one of them).
But for those that don't - then its hard to argue that the price of fuel will be compensation.
This. Not much point in saving £££'s on fuel when you get your pay cut or lose your job.But for those that don't - then its hard to argue that the price of fuel will be compensation.
They should really cut the tax on fuel that is used in company vans, trucks etc. It'd help alot. Sure it'd be a bugger to police but the gains would outweigh people playing the system a little.

For this to happen, crude oil would need to get to $240 a barrel with current exchange rates. Remotely possible but highly unlikely.
No it doesnt, between oil company profiteering and duty increases, the cost of fuel at the pump and the cost of crude are related like you and I...Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
