Hi chaps! Thought I'd introduce myself to the tvr forum here on PH. I'm currently 20 and am a air conditioning enginner, so am finally on decent money 
I've decided to start saving for something special. I currently have a mx-5 mrk2 which I love to bits because of the 'grin factor'.
I've allways had a huge soft spot for tvr's especially tamora's.......so last night I thought hmmm let's have a laugh and see how much a quote would be
so there I am filling in details preparing for the worse. I have a garage so I'd keep it there and it would be on limited mileage of around 5000. Id use a van for the commute to work so that the car would be purely for plessure. So I press get a quote and I get the quote of £1300 from swift cover. I was expecting something around £4000 so this makes me very happy. Time to start saving!!!! Think I should make the most of living at home and an empty garage

In 07 there was still a one or two companies that said an outright no when I was looking for my Cerbera and sadly I'm starting to creep up in years. You should enjoy the Tam. Good luck with your saving Dodd90 said:

Picked my first one up last Thursday. They really are awesome to drive. Mine has a TVR Power sports exhaust and sounds fantastic. Its great to have a convertible to hear the Speed Six roar the more I read these forums the more I want one! Is there honestly anything bad about the tamora? Everyone I've spoken to seems to be very fond of them I think they are ageing well as a car and people i have spoken to about it used to think it wasn't particulary pretty but they now think they look stunning.
The only issue i have found is the front splitter can be scraped quite easily and putting the hardtop in the boot can be a bit awkward but the more you do it the easier it gets. The roofs can also leak so i've been told.
If you do your research (which you are) and buy one in good condition with full history and warm it up properly before driving hard then i can't think of anything bad about it.
Just make sure you have the budget to maintain it or it will cause problems.

I'm slightly jelous of you to say the least I should have the budget to buy and maintain one, simply because I live at home. I've found myself being very strict with my money in order to get one asap. There's a guy on the readers cars thread who is 21 and managed to get his insured for £908!! I've alson briefly read on the engine rebuilds. Is this only because they arnt warmed up properly in the first place???
Ive got a 2004 t350 with 43k on it without a rebuild and it still pulls well. Earlier models had problems but I would have thought that they would have been sorted by now. I would buy one that has been regulary used as most problems seem to occur when they have been stood for some time. If you are worried I would buy from a dealer with a good warranty. Stephen James Motors has a couple for sale in the classifieds. I have seen them both and have driven the blue one.Both are nice cars and Steve is very easy to deal with. Worth having a look. Try as many as you can but buy them soon as I think prices will go up as soon as the weather picks up.

I am also Ben, young and drive an MX5 mk2 Sport - but just to give some balance here, despite experience of TVR driving from the age of 15, including numerous trackdays, full clean license, experience of many other rwd cars and a few years on the OP's age, I am still completely uninsureable on anything TVR.

I am hoping this year is the year I'll be able to get cover as a named driver, let alone get a policy on one!
Either way, I'll drive it on track still, great cars. Ben, my advice to you is that it is 100% worth sacrificing to save for one, they don't handle as well as Mx5's (T350/Tam may do with work) but they're stupidly fun to drive all the same. Comparing like for like with the Cerb/ my mk2, the Cerb is a bit like the Mk2 with quicker steering, what feels like four times the power (actually close to three time in our case) and slightly less balance... it is wayyy more fun though, there is a special something to them. I am hoping we can get the T350 to handle like an mx5 with 350bhp and a touch more grip... it'll be even more of a weapon then!

love my mx5. I'm missing the speed six roar with my roof down I'm yet to be taken out in a tvr yet which sucks so if any PHers in the Wiltshire/Tetbury area fancy showing me what its all about I'm all in haha. aubrey9160 said:

Completely agree. My T350 is a 2005 with 42k on it and no re-build and i just had it rolling roaded at 360 bhp at the fly. The car has been used regularly and maintained regardless of cost by its previous owner. Good luck Aub
Most problems with the Speed Six engine were sorted by 2004 and dealers i have spoken to say they are no more reliable or unreliable than a Ferrari or Lamborghini.
Both my TVRs have not had rebuilds and it doesn't particularly bother me if they are running well and i service them on schedule. I bought both from a dealer with warranty as i didn't want to own it for a few weeks and then have something bad happen. Prices will rise with the summer as when i traded my S2000 for the Tamora last week i was offered more than i was for it in November.
T350's only on 20k so far, its a 2005, so we're hoping it'll be as strong as our Cerb has been... which is unrebuilt at 94,700miles and still matches (or betters) our terminal speed records at various sprints/hillclimbs. 
I am of the opinion that TVR's are, mechanically atleast, incredibly reliable - but then again, we've only had two of them and done a paltry 90k in the Cerbera... what do I know?

Alright for some! I don't mind a quotye of around £1300 considering my first year of driving cost me £1600 in a clio!
