E Type on "Wheeler Dealer"

Doesn't look like it needs anything doing to it does it - but then judging by previous threads, the cars are not sold, not bought, invented, the buyers are production staff etc ... so who knows?

Well I watched it last night, observations:-
Having gone to all that effort to drop the IRS I would not just change one oil seal, mine´s coming out later this year and I will be taking the opportunity to overhaul all the major components, (thought it was strange that the diff was painted the same blue as the body)
Seats seemed to be black when they came back from the trimmers but blue when fitted to the car
Refitting the bonnet after replacing the lower scuttle panel appeared way too easy, When my car had a new bonnet, it was a real drama getting it to fit properly.
The refurbishment of the wires seemed very cost effective.
Appeared to be a pretty sound car for the price they paid.
For the record trickywoo my car is painted SIGNAL red and I will NOT be doing a colour match with the dog!

Did i see a new set of tyres on the wheels they forgot to add to the list ? they usually do that little one or the car grows new discs and calipers while Eds back is turned ?

When they removed the lower panel from the bonnet, the latter seemed to be rusty at the edges, but no treatment was undertaken, just the new panel attached. That seemed a bit strange. I also noted the colour change of the seats as well.

Generally, on Wheeler Dealers, you only see what they want you to see - though if you watch carefully you can usually see more

Did you see the state of the scuttle panel under the rear bumper when he refitted the exhaust. Patchy rust. I'd have thought that would have been included in the paint work.

People, people. Try and remember they are making a TV show, not a step by step TV restoration manual!

If you want the latter then you should be watching something like "A <thing> Is Born", where a helicopter/aircraft/MGB/LandRover/motorbike/etc is (re)built over the course of a TV series (generally 15 thirty minute shows or to put it another way 6.5 hours of TV).

"Wheeler Dealers" is a much lighter touch, aiming to give an overview of a single car's restoration over two 30 minute shows and showing a greater range of cars over a series.

At a guess they DID treat the rust and probably dropped the new chin panel to prep/paint the joining surface (rather than just leaving in black panel protection) but they whole point is they were illustrating the step. Same for refitting the bonnet. Sure, maybe it took them 6 hours to get it fitted right and the panel gaps sorted but that would take 12 episodes, or probably a whole series to show and the whole point they were illustrating is that they put it back together!

anyone else notice the car was bought the weather looked like a glorious summer day and the final test drive, when finished, was in the depths of winter. i don't know why but the editing of the other programmes made me think the work was done over a couple of weeks like on rags to riches et al!

I've watched a few of these. Looks like a lot of these cars are kept in storage for a while before being worked on as when they roll up outside the workshop they can be filthy !. Maybe Ed doesn't like working in the cold ?. Its a decent program that's done a grand job in getting people interested in modern classics which must be good for all PH'ers - even if it can be a little 'light' on detail. Fair play to them.

Saw this the other night. I really liked the colour of the car.

Would have chopped in the wires for some steels with chromed hubcaps though - much more suitable for a mid 70s Series III.

I reckon the 'change' in seat colour was down to the lighting. They still looked navy to me both before and after.

Rear number plate wasn't right - latest 2001 onwards font. Needed changing for a plastic rivetted letter version.
