In June me and the good lady are planning a trip to France. We'll be driving in my car and catching the ferry across from Dover-Calais as all the other Ferries are ridiculously expensive.

Now I have no experience of driving abroad, the missus does a bit, so we don't really know what costs are for toll roads and the like. Does anyone know how much we should set aside for tolls on the route suggested by google or find a better route? It takes us past Le Mans so I'm sure its a route familiar with the PH community!

With a bit of luck I might even be able to get there on a single tank of fuel! driving

Thanks

Toll roads are dull as ditchwater, but they'll get you there quick and easily. The roads up north are pretty crap, generally for toll roads there's normal non-toll roads running near enough parallel so you've got a non-toll option.

Thanks for that, toll roads might be a bit dull but when we're travelling that far its probably best to take the quickest route. We will probably be breaking the journey up anyway as its 5 hours to Dover then a 7 hour drive across France for us!

Normally takes me around 5 hours to do Calais to La Rochelle for what it's worth. That's without going silly or anything smile

Ok cool thats good to know, just going off what Mr.Google is telling me! Looks like the only toll is between Rouen and Le Mans €18 from what I can tell.

If I'm passing Le Mans is there anything cool to stop and see there? It'll be about a fortnight before the race when we're there.

If you looked in the Roads Wiki there is http://www.viamichelin.co.uk

Which gives you the exact toll amount if you plug your destination in which tends to be accurate ... €45 accordingly
