Last night I took my Chim over to Wheels in Motion in Chesham for a geometry setup. The company has an almost legendary reputation for track and race preparation amongst the MX5 brigade, so I thought I'd give it a go, and I was very impressed.

An admin error meant my booking hadn't gone through properly. But with no fuss they simply shuffled a few things round and got the car in regardless. I was allowed to come and have a good poke around under the chassis while the guy was working on it (which isn't always the case with modern health and safety nannying!) After that I headed back to the waiting room - stacks of quality reading material, a widescreen TV and a coffee machine - all very civilised.

There were minor adjustments to all the parameters, as well as quite a big correction on the front camber, and you can really feel the difference. The car feels more stable, turns in more keenly and adopts a more neutral attitude. And the whole thing cost me barely £100. Result.

Top guy is Tony and certainly money well spent thumbup

My mx5 has been there for a tune up and our old griff went their last year but he couldn't fit the wheel braces on for the sensors as tires were a tight fit within the body work.

See you on the dockside tomorrow morning wink

Tony is a bit of a legend. I have an Omega and they are prone to wishbone issues so need full geo every year. I get cheap Geo by being a member of the Omega Owners Forum. Car always feels better after he's had it and yes he lets you wander under the car and look around.

Never had the TVR over to him purely because its a fair way to go and I have all the TVR geo done by Topcats during servicing etc

He also sells tyres - and will beat internet prices if asked, but be sure to check and ask or you might get caught out.

Same here - took my Omega to him via a recommendation from the owners forum. Would have no qualms about taking the Tiv there too, although Guglielmi would be closer, and equally well respected.

Booked in this afternoon, but not expecting miracles because rear toe adjusters are bound to be seized (and I'm sure they're slightly out).

Just been here again, albeit in a Leon rather than a TVR - fantastic place.

1st time was to cure a tracking problem which 2 other garages could not sort - they sorted it straight away and talked me through the issue. Car has been A1 since.

2nd time today - I've been to Wales this weekend which resulted in a 250 mile drive there and back. On the way there I noticed a wheel wobble and took it ATS this morning to have them re-balanced (I couldn't cope with another 250 miles of wheel wobble). Unfortunately 50 miles into the journey home we hit the mway - jesus wept - I had a wobble worse than before and was stuck at 65 mph for the remaining 200 miles.

Took it to Wheels in Motion on the way home, they fitted me straight in. Turned out ATS had fitted the weights the wrong way round. Quickly fixed and back on my way with an A1 car again.

Top work and another happy customer
