Looking at used X5, both cars same year, condition & milage.
3.0 Petrol is £2K cheaper.

What the thoughts, I know fuel difrence wont make up the £2K, but resale might. Only do 10K PA

Petrol.

Doesn't go dagdagdagdagdagdagdagdagdag at the traffic lights and wont lunch its turbo, injest its swirl flaps or require new injectors.

I am a fan of BMW diesels, but on your mileage, I'd go petrol.

They're actually quite quiet at the lights and the X5 diesel engine does not have swirl flaps to injest.

Not sure what mpg you get from a 3.0i but my 4.6 used to average around 20 with a mixture of motorway and town. My facelift 3.0D is averaging 31 with more town than distance at present and I expect it to be up in the late 30's on a run across Europe in April.

Dont! my 4.8is cripples me on fuel.Better to buy diesel & go on a nice holiday with the money you save!

All joking aside if you dont do mega miles you may as well have petrol.

The 4.8is makes a HELL of a lovely noise and is properly rapid.

Had a little race with one off the lights in my Golf R32 (mk4 slightly tweaked) and it was neck and neck until we hit the legal limit an backed off.

Love it! I had a 55 plate 4.8is. Bloody awesome thing - unfortunately it was on a 2 year PCP and had to hand it back as the GFV was about £5k more than it was worth. 17mpg anyone?

Almost identical to a 4.8is to 60 and probably to 100 (not checked). No it wasn't that quick but who is saying is was? It was plenty nippy enough for most owners and clocked some impressive laps times in it's day.

You should have had a 1.9 TDI 150 surely, more torque than the R32 therefore much better?

Now you're being silly. That diesel Golf was utter cr4p and actually had the SAME torque as an R32 but of course 150bhp instead of 240. And FWD. And diabolical suspension.

Thicko wink

I must admit i love my 4.8is but one thing it isnt is quick, miles to heavy & boaty. But it is comfy & makes a lovely noise, compared to my tvr though its feels terribly slow & quiet, but they are different vehicles set out to do different things.

Although i love the 4.8is cos i know it will hopefully always work unlike the tvr which hardly ever does!

I do hanker for more power in the x5 but the fuel bills kill me now so i will leave well alone!

I have always loved R32`s as well they make a great sound.

Cerb - I'm not feeling 4.8is love from you!

It definitely made a great noise having a 4.8is and an R32 going for it but the BM was louder!

Fox - seeing as you don't understand what torque is about and hide this with incorrect "explanations" here is what happened at Bruntingthorpe.

An AUTO (as they all are) 335d beat a MANUAL 335i - yes only by 0.1s but still beat it. Now the 335d is slower to 60 and to 100 and has less bhp so HOW did it win? Ermmm - I think I know why...

It does make a great noise, no doubt.Just wish it was a little bit more vocal when you are driving it.

Would love to listen to the two you were involved in.

You have the best of both worlds with your 335d,lots of power & torque & decent fuel economy,i love them loads with their twin turbo`s good choice of motor vladimir.
