Help request - video editing and PiP

Hi forum,

I have recently aquired a new el cheapo MiniDV camera from ebay - and as a result, can now get forwards and driver input, or forwards and back on trackdays.

The problem is, I have no idea how to then combine them as a picture in picture job - I have asked Google, but every site wants to say things are free, then ask me for $19.99..

Does anyone have a reccomendation of either a plugin for widows movie maker, or alternatively a decent free (or cheap) movie making program that a noob like me could drive? All I'm after is a few basic effets - I'm hardly remaking The Matrix.

PS - I was thinking I could use a horn toot to allow me to sync the 2 files. Any advice here also appreciated.

Well it would have been something like a 2-D DVE on an alpha channel but I expect it's all different now!
