What about an engine from an ST220?
I'm guessing they must share the same block pretty much..?
Of course that's assuming it's not the same engine
Yep this has been done before by the chap who initially started the UK Cougar owners club - its pretty much the same engine but a 3 litre instead of a 2.5I'm guessing they must share the same block pretty much..?

I've got a Cougar and I would personally just get another car. They are worth nothing at all and there are loads of them on eBay all the time.
Just put it on eBay as spares or repairs and buy something else.
Doing the engine conversion is going to cost a fortune, be loads of hassle and ultimately be pointless.

ive only just paid this car off from the bank of mum and dad, so if i can save it i would rather. Otherwise its a loan for a suitable replacment
So surely your best bet is simply to replace like for like.
Getting the same engine from a scrapyard should be a doddle surely?
