Help me help a friend - ideas needed
Discussion
i spent a year in ghana a while ago and met a very intelligent, dedicated individual who by no fault of his own, didnt get the best start in life (untreated polio as a child). as a result he was last in line for most things.
anyway, cut a long story short i have helped him get a CCNA and a degree (2.1) in Telecommunications and Electrical Engineering. he is on the cusp of graduating and i am worried, given that he lives in a developing country, despite all the help i have given him, he will end up in poverty along with the majority of the population there.
what i was hoping PH could do is give us some ideas about the best way forward. he is happy to work abroad, teach or work in telecomms. spoken and written english is excellent and he is very presentable and overall a top bloke. i have tried to get him to the uk but am really struggling with uk visa applications etc. also i think the UK is probably a bad choice.
the best bet would be for him to stay in Ghana and for his qualifications to help his country but given the limited number of vacancies in his country, ideas are invited!
cheers.

Would it be worth approaching UK based NGOs or charities that are currently or likely to be active in Ghana? Oxfam for one advertise jobs on their website which locally based employees would be qualified to do - whether they recruit from locals or not, I don't know. If his English is up to it - how about him becoming a teacher either teaching English in Ghana or teaching his area of expertise there or elsewhere.
