1st bike in 25 years !!

Hello All,

My two young boys have now started riding two-wheel bikes without stablisers !!

Anyway, they now want to start going for bike rides in our local area and parks.

So I need a budget bike which I will use mainly for mini-bike rides on roads and to the park and back (2 miles round trip) and also to the town and back when the weather is good. Which again would be 2-3 mile round trip now and again.

So with a limited budget of £150-£200 what should I purchase?

What should I look out for when looking a bikes?...brakes, gears, lightness ????

Last bike I had was a Mongoose BMX with white mag wheels !! A nice bit of kit back then

If your gonna just use it for light stuff then it will be fine for rides to park with kids and the likes,its not going too be the best in the world and if you get hit buy the bug its not gonna stand up to serious offroad use and you would need to upgrade.

If it's for parks, roads and other light stuff; scrap all ideas of a mountain bike and look at hybrids instead. You don't need suspension, knobbly tyres and disc brakes and going without gets you something easier to pedal, more practical and often cheaper (or better quality for the same money).

What would you recommend I look out for on Ebay?

Max budget is £200. I would prefer mountain bike, as there are a couple of woodland areas near to where I live.

Do you want to charge through the woods as quickly as possible, bouncing off rocks and ploughing through mud, or just go for a bike ride in the woods?

I'd stick by my hybrid advice then. Don't think that just because its not a mountain bike it will be fragile, they are designed to stand up to quite a bit of abuse and will be better suited to the riding you want to do and your budget.

What age are the boys?
I bought a bike from Decatholon for my boy a couple of years ago and it has been fantastic. Think it is probably 7 yrs plus? Think it was circa 150 quid.
Cant see it on their website but worth popping in to see them...?
