Pepper White Cerbera
Discussion
Hi,
Have been away from TVR ownership and this website for sometime now. Its good to be back, i can feel the TVR bug growing inside me by the hour!! In fact its nearly 7 years since I sold my 4.5 Red Rose and now, whilst trying to gage the mkt I was surprised at the current 2nd hand value of some cars.
Inevitably, I have been drawn to the beautiful White Cerbera offered by Racing Green. An unbelievable price even for an "historic car"....
Is the last of the Cerbera's really worth the £45k price tag? Would I be looking at instant depreciation should I decide to go for it? Good 2003-2004 examples seem to go for anything from £20-£30k (would I be right) depending on the usual factors.... Would my heart be ruling my head?
Any thing sensible that anyone has to say to calm these stirings would be much appreciated.

Top Lurker or not?
4 posts in nearly 10 years.
Must take some beating.
2006, 8,500 miles, pepper white!
Where Cerberas are concerned your heart will always rule your head IMHO.
It certainly is a Cerb of distinction but is it worth £45K?
Sorry I've just replied to your question with more questions.
Regards
Simon

Im going to stick my neck out and say that the last cerb isnt worth that sort of money. Its had quite a few owners. Its spent most of its life stood somewhere not used.Other than it being the last cerb its no different to most other cerbs. If you are going to drive your car then get a good one and spend the 25k difference on your own upgrades, track days, at todays rates a tank full of petrol. In my mind the last cerb should either be a museum piece or if driven as it should be just another cerb.

Never seen the logic or reason for a premium because a car is the last in its line.
To me it is just a sales scam.
You can see logic in a premium for the first off a line or some kind of provenance during its lifetime but I just don't see anything for something that signifies the end of the line, if you like, the death of the model.
You can see value in 'end of runs' where there is a clear difference like with the Griffs but unless this car is physically different or has a much stronger provenance that just being the last one made (possibly) then is there a great logic in a great premium?

Any TVR is a heart over head choice but £45k? I have to say that I don't consider it to be that special. Would the price rise/fall? Probably fall unless you don't drive it or unless TVR general prices take a sharp rise to make the last Cerb particularly valuable. I suppose the question is would you rather pay £45k for that or pay £20 for a good Cerb and make it perfect (which would most probably still leave quite a bit of change)? I know which I'd be doing.
IMHO its not worth the price tag, it may appear to a die-hard enthusiast that will garage it forever more as an investment but TVR's don't seem to attract these types from what I have seen.
I'd go for (and just have done) a top end car thats in great condition, drives well etc etc or buy a tatty one and spend a fortune with a ground up rebuild to get it exactly how you want it.
Anything is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it, it could sit at RG for years and get reduced or someone could snap it up tomorrow, if that is you then good luck, it looks lovely, but I wouldn't pay that for it.

As I said, a complete ground-up rebuild, much better value although still a fair chunk to pay. But it does look lucious, especially upside down!I would only sell mine for circa £25K - having spent nearly that much getting it up to spec and getting everything like new. So I can see why the best cerbs are worth a premium.
Is this late cerb really one of the best cerbs?
It has changed hands for £35K ish previously afaik.
I think it is still worth north of £30K so long as it really is one of the best cerbs ie immaculate, plenty of paperwork and bills etc...

Oh Lordy, I'd be frightened to start the thing, let alone drive it on road or track. Look at that engine bay!FWIW, as has been said, I would rather buy a good car (late/early not fussed) and if I wanted to chuck some money at it, get a 4.7 (or even the rumoured 4.8) engine in it. Then use the damn thing like God (nee Mr Wheeler) intended.
As I said been out of the game for a while so forgive me.
4.7L / 4.8L engines? where, what, how, when?
I couldn't care less about the last Cerbera thing. If anything the premium should be for condition etc as you say and that's really what interested me. If the cars changed hand previously at 35k though they can go an whistle!!
