Hi big-lads

I have a question:

If i was to walk into a Porsche dealership armed with a Duracell battery and said "I would like a 996 in this colour" and point to the top 3rd of the battery (the bronze/gold/copper colour). Would they:

(a) Say "ok" and match the colour,

or

(b) Say "we can only match existing car paints"

or

(c) Say "get out"

Serious question. Cheers

If they think you are serious you can get a car built in any colour. The factory offer a colour matching service, although this is abviously a cost option when speccing your car.

You might like to look out for a colour called Zanzibar red, which was a orangey/duracell colour that was used on a few GT3 mark 1s.

The factory can do special order paintwork, but it can take an age.

A PHer on here recently bought a Ferrari (?) because his 996TT was ordered with bespoke paint and wasn't even started by the original delivery date... ie it was a pain for them, so the factory swept the order to the bottom of the pile.

Get reassurances that it will be ready on time and that you won't get dicked about.

Or choose a suitable approximate factory colour. Zanzibar is interesting.

Cheers

I think it is about £1000 for special colours on their pre determined list...i.e. old model colours amazon green, polar silver etc,,,,

The one off to match colours are approx £2500 but as pointed out it can take an age for them to come through.

Cheers fellas!

I was about to phone a dealer and ask but i didnt want to sound like a birk

I remember reading about that delivery debacle (it was Spie IIRC?). So i will be weary of that, thanks.

I am not really a fan of this colour (its the old mans choosing ).

I prefer the "lighting yellow" on a C4S Much better. I will look into the zanzibar colour as well.

Cheers again. Much appreciated

Very much depends which car you are going for, some of the extreme stuff, GT3/GT2 etc look great in solid colours.

although the best colour for the GT3 is:

www.pistonheads.com/sales/detail.asp?s=79&i=23116&sc=UD7W IMHO, although to be honest, i haven't seen any other colour except for the classic/retro RS colours

I think it will be a C4S. If i had the choice, this would be the colour:

I had a 968CS in Speed Yellow, it was a great car, but had sat on the dealer's forecourt for 3 months+ as people loved it, but not enough to see past it's wonderfully distinctive yellowness!

I must say, after seeing the article on 9m's House of Kolor 996 in 911 and Porsche World I quite fancied a flip-flop paint scheme myself...

Visiting AFN Guildford (again ) I parked my Guard's Red BoxS next to a almost identical car in Speed Yellow.

Damn it looked fine.

Even if the combination reminded me of a tube of Smarties.
