Driving test waiting times

Anyone in the know? How far away are tests being booked now?

It varies, each area is different.

Have a look at the DirectGov web site and see what's available.

For our local test center, the waiting list was over six months, 10 miles away it was three months. Eventually got a cancelation and only had to wait three weeks.

Problem is, its not for me. And said person has not passed his theory.

I waited 2 weeks for mine, test centre just down the road
Hard to believe that was 3 years ago now

As mentioned above though, it all depends on your area...
Your driving instructor should have a PIK or PID number (can't remember which) that lets you check against his timetable & see when he's free to let you use his car for the test (unless you have your own car of course).

February last year I only has to wait a week or so, from memory (Kendal, Cumbria).

When I took my test 2 years ago, I could either wait for 3 months for a local test or go to the next town 30 miles down the road and have one the next week. Did a quick lesson to get my barings in the new place, did the test in the new place and that was that.

4. complete your practical learner training in the area where the test will be held.

How does that help? I'm familiar with the process, I just wanted to know after him having say 20-30 hours with an instructor, how long he'd THEN need to wait for a test.

I was looking to book last august. Booked the closest time to me which was in october. Got a cancellation for mid september though, was checking every day!
