Just thought I would have a quick straw poll of the best road in yorkshire.

My vote goes to the Settle to Hawes road.

Too busy IMO.

My vote is either Helmsley TT or the Blakey road.

You should get up earlier! For me definately the Settle to Hawes, back to Settle, back to Hawes, back to Settle again and again until you get it right (or as close to right as your skill and car is capable of). The road has everything you can imagine to challenge you. Slow corners, fast sweeping bends, humps and dips, pos and neg cambers, bridges etc. Just watch for the occassional straying sheep! Fun to follow a biker who really knows the lay of the land too (without putting too much pressure on him of course). biggrin

Yeah there is a lovely corner on that road that I really like. Its a S bend where the walls are really close to road. get it right and its an awesome feeling swooping through it. There is also a nasty little dip that if you hit it at the right speed you pretty much land at the bottom of it. many a time I have had all 4 wheels off the road on it. Love it.

You can throw in a trip over Buttertubs at the Hawes end too.

Buttertubs is over-rated in my humble opinion. Great for Evo's and the like but rubbish for anything lacking of ground clearance!

Not really in Yorkshire, but the A18 in Isle of Man is great, over there on business and just had a couple of runs tonight. Great road mainly well sighted, with a couple of more twisty bits, but best bit is no speed limit!

Only sad bit is I left the 996 turbo at home so had to make the most of it in the Scirocco!

ON Topic, the road from Skipton to Kinsea is great, not too high speed but quiten technical with one memorable corner with a great big bump just before.........best brake early!

Last time I went over was on a bicycle so ground clearance wasn't a problem. Breathing was though! smile

It's not a candidate for the best road, but am I the only to really enjoy the A65? I love a blast along there 1st thing on a Sunday morning on the way to the Lakes.

Muker - Aysgarth is better than the tubs IMO. Blubberhouses - Greenhow is very interesting.

Personally my favorite is a combination of two roads, A684 and the B6255. Drive all the way from Bedale to Ingleton. If everything falls into place ie limited traffic and what traffic you do come across is in the right place you have everything including overtaking. Love it when it's perfect!!

Pickering to Whitby midweek is excellent, and the Whitby to Scarborough road also good
if you can pick a quiet time traffic wise.

That blubberhouse to Greenhow road is a good call. Not very busy either.

Kinsea?

I lived in Skipton for ~25 years and go back there a lot but have missed this one - the only similar place name I can think of is Kilnsey (with the crag and trout farm) - is that the one?

The B6160 goes up that way I think, worth taking from Addingham right up to the A684 but even more fun if you take a left in Buckden towards Oughtershaw and over to Hawes.

The main issue with most of the more spectacular roads in this neck of the woods is their lack of width and forward vision, if you could be sure you were alone there would be lots of fun to be had at legal speeds.

Buttertubs pah! Way over rated imo. Drove from Hawes through Keld to the Tan inn last week and you've really got to concentrate through there.

Hawes to Settle is one of the best roads I know either driving or riding.

But my No.1 is the A6024 from Holmefirth to glossop. What a great road, great lines of sight, hairpins and spectacular views make this my number 1.
Oh and it only takes me 20min to get there smile
