Stop-over near Troyes - recommendations?...
Discussion
Hi all...
a group of us will be on our way back from a Morzine MTB holiday at the start of july, and are thinking of breaking-up the return leg by stopping for a night half-way(ish)...
Maybe somewhere near Troyes?
We'd be after somewhere with secure parking (van full of expensive DH rigs)...
Somewhere where we could get a nice meal, maybe visit a vinyard? and a good breakfast in the morning, before heading for calais (via a quick photo-stop at Circuit de Gueux, probably)
Not too expensive.
Anybody have any recommendations for that area?
Thanks,
Piers.

Hi,
We stayed at the Mercure Troyes Centre on the way back from Italy last September.
It has secure underground parking next to the hotel and is a short walk to the centre of Troyes.
Was ideal for an overnight stop and the Old Town of Troyes is worth a look (or a couple of beers) if you arrive in time.
ETA: Double room was 109 Euro. We didn't try the breakfast so can't comment on that.
Also access to the parking is through an automatic shutter which requires a card from the hotel to open. Depending what your van is you might want to check the entrance height with the hotel. I don't remember the it being particularly low but I wouldn't really have been thinking about it at the time.

We've stayed here a few times, it's dirt cheap, in the middle of Troyes yet quiet, lots of bars & restaurants a few streets away. It gets mixed reviews, we don't really understand the bad ones
It is simple, but charming. We prefer it to the portacabin chains found on the retail/industrial parks for the same money. They have secure parking in a gated courtyard across the road where some of the rooms/apartments are. I usually stick the Bentley in there.

Had a lucky find on the way back from collecting the car. http://www.chateaudesbondons.com/uk/index.php
Its in the middle of nowhere so security should be fine (entrance is gated anyway) and food was excellent, even though we arrived really late and the kitchen was just closing.
Instead of Vineyards, you could always head up to Reims and do one of the Champagne tours
