Getting an Insurance indication for discussion purposes

My 'stepson' seems to think we shall buy him a car when he turns 17 in a couple of months and he wants a volkswagen beetle. And of course, he assumes we shall insure it 
His mother has very little money and cannot afford much to contribute. I do not have a problem in principle, what I do take issue with is the fact that he has no income as still at school. So who will pay for tax/service/MOT etc. He seems to think he will just pay petrol and have a free car but I think he should learn to contribute and until he gets a job, he cannot so why should we give him a free car.
Where can I get a rough idea of the price of insurance for him on this car so I can explain just how much this will all cost. All the websites want definite details and, if I get my way, we will not be buying so I don't want to be hounded with emails for ever more. Is there a website that can give me guide prices based on guide information? He has seen a car he wants and has told us but I have no idea what engine size is etc

Take out a vague hotmail email addy. Use that for the quotes. Feel free to use your normal address and the sons mobile number.

If they do contact you again say you've taken it up with someone else and don't want to be requoted next time as they were so far out, then hang up.
TBF it will be a lot of money whoever you go to ~£2K ish I reckon if you're in a half decent area.

They do have a relationship and as I said I am also fond of him but there is no legal relationship. It comes down to a moral relationship.
And to be blunt, the fact that my OH always treats this boy as a son is an attractive factor for me. I also have a son from my marriage and this behaviour means he is a good stepfather and I need to look out for my son and put him in positive situations.
The irony is that when my son gets to 17 (another 4 years yet) he will also have to demonstrate how he will contribute towards a car. I am not a walking wallet either.
I just told my OH that this car is a 2 litre and pointed out it was a larger engine than any of our 3 (soon to be 3) cars. He agreed this would be a non starter however I think he sometimes can be a bit soft so this could cause a lot of tension between us.

Absolutely. Spot on. This is my argument. I have no problem with helping, we are in a decent financial position and then the same applies to my son (currently aged 13) and then my OH son (aged 10) but to just hand any of them a free car? Ridiculous.If he really wants a car he sould save up himself. At least then he will learn the value of things and might be less likely to crash it...
My latest ruse was to tell my OH if his stepson wants a car then he should be doing all this internet research. He has a laptop. I think he is in for a shock.
wrt emails - use www.mailinator.com. You can make up an email address, no signing up necessary, all you do is just type in the username you want and it'll return all mail for that. Quite clever.
