I've just replaced all mine. I think the originals had been damaged by indiscriminate use of wheel cleaning product (probably acidic), not by me I hasten to add.

That's moisture & salt getting under the polymer coating
Watch out for it on the wheels as well!

I recently replaced my centre caps for the same reason, very easy job as you do not have to remove the wheels only took 10 mins
