DVLA Changing Class Of Vehicle - Anyone Done It ?

I have a VW Transporter and I've stuck windows and extra seats in it.

Currently its registered as a panel van so has lower speed limits applied to it.

So I intend to re register it with the DVLA as a "Dual Purpose Vehicle" which means I get car speed limits.

However before I do this are there any downsides I'll be stuck with ?

Its a year 2000 so I think the road Tax won't change.

I've spoken to the DVLA and apparently its as simple as confirming the change on the V5 and sending in 2 pics - no fees and no inspections which seems remarkably easy / unusual.

I did this with my Delica when I converted it to a campervan, take loads of photos of all work done, keep copy of all reciepts of parts if any work was done professionally, and send these with V5 after ammending the body type. Easy as that, they never asked to inspect my conversion, but I could imagine they possibly will in your case with the fact you are adding more seats, but you wont know this until you've sent the info off.
