I was in a hotel bar earlier this week and TV was showing the Sprint NASCAR race. There was a CGI animation of a V8 engine during the cut sequence to the replays; it was showing a flat plane crank configuration. Do the NASCAR engines actually run a flat plane crank or is it easier to do the animation that way?

There was no technical information, it was only the background animation during the cut sequences.

This article seems to suggest that back when it was written (2007?) the engines were cross plane by regulation...

I always thought they where cross plane cranks. Try ls1tech.com and search/ask around. The advanced section has loads of info.

Chris.

Thanks, I'll have a look over there. I always thought they were cross plane as well... must have been easier to do the flat plane animation.
