Sorry if it's a repost. Found this http://uk.news.yahoo.com/5/20110330/tuk-five-year-...
Shocking. Does kind of merge in with the London thread in the lounge but thought it needed its own.

The 'Is this how bad London has become' thread?

It happened in London. Though it could happen anywhere.

I think you'll find it couldn't happen anywhere. Read title, thought, South London.http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I've just seen this on the Telegraph website:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/84165...
Is it just me or is it incredibly tasteless and somewhat vulgar for a national newspaper to show videos of Ambulance and Air Ambulance crews treating a 5 year old child who's been shot?
These type of videos really do boil my piss

London’s gangland would be unrecognisable to anyone half a century ago, although Victorian statesman Charles Canning might find London’s 170 or so gangs curious. Canning was the Postmaster General who in 1854 devised the original London postal areas, which were then subdivided in 1917. Those arbitrary and practical sub-divisions are now a matter of life of death to some, now that the city has the almost absurd phenomenon of “postcode killings”, with teenagers murdered for stepping into the wrong territory.
Among the recent victims were 14-year-old Paul Erhahon, murdered because of a dispute between people living in E11 (Leytonstone) and E15 (Stratford), and 16-year-old Nassirudeen Osawe of N1 (Islington), stabbed to death by a Hackney (E5) gang. Perhaps this latest incident was another postcode-related attack; if not, it will be over something that strikes most people as absurdly unimportant.
And on top of all this police dealing with armed gangs must fill in “community impact assessment documents”, mandatory forms which assess how a crime or operation would affect “community cohesion”. In January last year a Freedom of Information request revealed that CO19 armed officers undertook eight operations in London estates the previous year, but officers in impact assessment documents had written they were worried about the “adverse” impact on community relations as suspects were “predominantly black”. One in Lambeth, the borough in which this girl was shot, wrote: “This operation may have a minor impact in respect of community relations due to the subject and his fellow gang members being from a particular ethnicity.”
