Hi all, my 95 black 4.0l has gone sick today luckily it's going in to fernhurst on Tuesday to have some new brake discs fitted so hopefully will be sorted at the same time.

I thought however that I would see if anyone can help. The car keeps conking out and won't restart unless left for awhile and even then it dosen't always sound like it's going to fire up. It's not the fuel pump so I was wondering if it could be the throttle switch ?

Has anyone had a faulty throttle switch, and if so what were the symptoms ?

Ade

P.S. will it be OK to drive it to the Garage in this condition ?

Are you getting a click sound when you turn the key? if so, it will probebly be the starter motor. they are prone to over heating, and thay can siese up when thay are too hot. I had the same problem and it was fine after a recon!

A starter problem will not turn the engine over, it sounds like yours is turning over? If it is starter motor related it maybe worth trying a heat shield before forking out, after all, you should have a shield anyway even if you have a new starter!

Do you mean that it's running, than dies, then won't start up again until it cools down?
If so I'd suspect that the coil is breaking down when hot.
Does it missfire a bit - then die, or just cut out? Only die at idle or lose power & cut out no matter what? any warning lights on the dash? Full or low petrol tank?
More details please

Thanks for replies, the car was running Ok would conk out on a corner. Once stopped for awhile would restart and so on.

I have cured the problem by checking the fuses /relays and disconnecting / reconnecting the ECU.

...however one thing I didn't mention was that the car had a full (very) tank of fuel as at the garage the pump nozzel was faulty causing an overfill...fuel all over the place. I wonder if some fuel had somehow set off the sensor which cuts out the engine in a role over situation, seems to fit with it only happening around corners !

Anyway, problem solved, whatever it was
