What if the criteria were changed to: You have £2,000. What is the quickest 1/4 mile you can do for that £2k. Don't need to drive it away afterwards, it doesn't need to be road legal. However, that £2k does need to purchase something (rather than hire it - so no hiring a Tornado Jet or similar...) and it needs to have wheels touching the tarmac.
Best I can think of is a knackered 70s American muscle car with all weight stripped out and slicks and running some ridiculous fuel (nitro methanol or something) that would probably make the engine melt just after it crossed the finishing line.
