Went to see this last night after my sister raved about it seeing it in the US before it was released over here. I think she now needs her head checked as it was mediocre at best IMO. Predictable and too much of a happy ending, would have been better if it had ruined/killed him in the end like it had everyone else who had taken the drug.
In the end he says he was off it and his brain had remained in it’s heightened state, then he spoke Japanese, so was on or off the drug did the research he commissioned iron out the kinks?
6/10 worth watching when it comes out on DVD.

The premise was decent as was the first 2/3rds of the film. Loved the idea of a drug unlocking your true potential and his first forays into it's use and the way that was depicted was excellent, however I also thought the ending weak and a bit of a cop out.

I think at the end despite what he said, he was still using the drug. If you noticed throughout the film, whenever he used the drug his eyes would turn bright blue and they were bright blue at the end of the film, also there was absolutely no evidence throughout the rest of the film that the effects were permanent, they always wore off in dramatic fashion previously so either he is still on them or it's another part of the cop out ending.

Did you fall asleep at the end or something? He was on it, but a version he'd had made for him. I think at the end despite what he said, he was still using the drug. I saw it tonight, pretty entertaining. A film buff friend of mine tried to rip it to shreds. Silly bugger.

SPOILERS!!
He says he had a version tailor made which allowed him to be weaned off it safely so he was saying he was clean and no longer taking it. The only reason he still had his "powers" was because it had permenently re-written his synapse pathways or some other BS which happened to no one else throughout the film. Typical Hollywood, it all ends happily ending, which in a few brief sentences undoes most of the premise of what has gone before. It was a decent film but I would have prefered a more ballsy ending. I prefer to think he was still on the drug and he came up with that lie in seconds due to his "superbrain" to make DeNiro give up on him. His "blue eyes" indicate that this is a possibility. Would be a much more satisfying ending IMO than the tacked on fairytale one.

anyway, think the ending was a soft touch. Should have ended back to earth with a bump and DeNiro beating him.
