hey

im thinking of getting rid of two of my guitars for a very nice guitar ive seen recently but dont think i will get much for them if i trade them in, so how can i find out the value of them, i know i would get more if i sold them privately but the guitar i want will sell in the next few weeks. the guitars are a gibson firebird v and a gibson es335 dot reissue.

any help would be welcome.

I know it's not very sexy, but ebay is a good guide for what guitars will go for privately - there's even a few firebirds on there at the moment to give you an idea.

If you don't fancy putting them on ebay you could pop an ad in Guitarist or alternatively sell via a specialist (I've dealt with a guy called David Bennett from 99 Guitars in the past and found him to be a gent)

Hope this helps

Not a good time to sell guitar at the moment. And Firebirds can be slow to shift - they're a marmite thing. (Unless it's older and has a medallion on it.) I bought my old one cheap for that reason, but I had the same problem when I sold it.

You can use www.gbase.com to get some specific (albeit US dealer) asking prices for the same year as yours.

Plus: what are you going to get?

How does that one differ from a standard sunburst LP? Just curious, really.

Only 350 in the world, special neck, burst, humbuckers and a couple of other things, also you get a replica Clapton guitar strap, bluesbreaker cd and a few other things.

I've looked at them but don't really interest me a huge amount.

Just looked at the Gibson website. The 2010 Standard limited looks a bit of a mess, doesn't it? did they have any more odd bits they could have added to it? a teasmade maybe?

The "standard" one ($8,500) doesn't look to be horrendous value, considering it's a custom shop LP.

-edit-

And rummaging a bit more, it comes in $50 cheaper than the normal 1960 custom shop LP Standard.

Doesn't seem the best value in the world to me. I mean, I've got the Bluesbreakers "Beano" CD but I doubt it would add much to the selling price of a LP or SG or Strat.

Now.

If Gibson made a Peter Green LP re-issue complete with the wiring anomaly that made it sound so good, then I'd be interested yes

It's actually a bit cheaper than the non-special edition 1960 reissue.

Yesterday I played the guitar and it's fantastic, I can honestly say it's the best electric guitar I've ever played, I just hope I can raise the funds before it's sold as the shop had 5 other Clapton les Paula and they all sold before even getting into the store! I really hope it stays there frown
